Dienstag wins 200 free in loss at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Brandeis swimming and diving teams swam against Tufts University in a dual meet on Sunday afternoon. The Judges won three events on the men's side, but both teams lost on the day. The men's team lost 227-65, while the women's team lost 252-41.

On the men's side, senior Brendon Lu (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) and sophomore Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) were the standout performers. Lu won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.59 and followed that up by out-splitting Tufts' breaststroker by nearly two seconds in the final 50 yards of the 200-yard breaststroke to win with a season-best time of 2:09.35. Dienstag out-touched the field by 0.22 seconds to win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.74. Lu was joined by senior Benton Ferebee (Germantown, Tenn. / Memphis University School), junior James Barno (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa), and first-year Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino) on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished third with a time of 1:37.29. Dienstag was joined by Ferebee, Ngo, and sophomore Dylan Levy (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took third with a time of 1:31.95.

On the women's side, the top performers were first-years Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior) and Anastasia Bekou (Limassol, Cyprus / Laniteio Lyceum). Gonzalez finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.66 and finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.41. Bekou narrowly out-touched a Tufts backstroker for third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.09. Bekou was joined by senior Olivia Stebbins (Willington, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith) and juniors Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto) for the 200-yard medley relay in which they finished fourth with a time of 1:53.79. Gonzalez was joined by Gold, Rennie, and first-year Aubrey Cheng (Anchorage, Alaska / South Anchorage) on the 200-yard freestyle team that finished third with a time of 1:41.62.

The Judges return to action Friday, December 3 through Sunday, December 5 for the Gompei Invitational in Worcester, Mass.
