• Nolan, Swerdloff claim UAA Pitcher of the Week honors

    Rookie Melissa Nolan of the softball team and sophomore Mike Swerdloff of the baseball team were named the UAA Pitchers of the Week for April 4. Nolan went 2-1 with a 0.57 ERA and 13 strikeouts, while Swerdloff was 1-0 with 12 Ks, including 11 in one game, the most by a Judge since 2007.
  • Ducinski no-no helps Judges earn split with Emerson

    The Brandeis softball team dropped its third straight New England game in the opener of a doubleheader at Emerson College, 5-3, but sophomore Casey Ducinski tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the second game as the Judges defeated the Lions, 8-0, to earn a split. Junior Megan DeNubila had the big blow with a first-inning grand slam, her first career homer.
  • Softball drops a pair of one-run games to Clark, 2-1 & 5-4

    The Judges got a career-high nine strikeouts from rookie Melissa Nolan in the first game and a two-run double from her in the second, but it wasn't enough as the visiting Clark University Cougars earned a pair of one-run victories, 2-1 and 5-4. Junior Lauren Porcaro also delivered her sixth career home run in the second contest.

  • Softball struggles on final day of UAA action

    The Brandeis softball team dropped its last two UAA games, 10-0, to Washington and 10-2 against Emory. The runs scored against the Eagles, on a Megan DeNubila single, were just the fourth and fifth against the Eagles all tournament. The Judges will return from Florida with a record of 4-7 overall, 3-5 in the UAA, tying them for third in the league with Rochester.
  • Nolan no-no helps softball snap skid, 9-0, over Case

    Rookie pitcher Melissa Nolan tossed Brandeis softball's first no-hitter since April 2009 today as the Judges defeated Case Western Reserve University, 9-0, in six innings, in a University Athletic Association contest. The Judges also got their first home run of the season, a solo job by junior Samantha Gajewski.

    The Brandeis softball team suffered a pair of defeats on their third day of action at the 2011. The Judges fell to 10-ranked Emory and Rochester, in today's action, by scores of 12-0 and 8-2. The Brandeis offense was shut down effectively, producing just six hits in the two games.
  • Softball rallies past Case, 9-6, but falls to WashU, 8-1

    The Brandeis University softball team went 1-1 on their second day of action at the 2011 UAA tournament . In their opener, the Judges defeated Case Western Reserve, 9-6, with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. In their second game of the day, Brandeis fell to Washington University, 8-1, mustering just four hits along the way. The Judges now stand at 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the UAA.
  • Eight-run sixth lifts softball past Rochester, 9-5, in UAA opener

    The Judges needed just three hits to produce eight runs in the top of the sixth inning today, defeating Rochester, 9-5, in the University Athletic Association opener for both squads. Junior Marianne Specker had the game-winning hit, a two-run double, while senior Carly Schmand had the team's only two-hit day.
  • Softball tops Thiel (Pa.),10-2, falls to DeSales and Monmouth (Ill.)

    After their first two days of competition, the Brandeis softball team went 1-2 in three non-conference games. In their first game of the season, Brandeis fell 6-1 to DeSales University. On day day two, the Judges routed Thiel University of Pa., 10-2, but fell to Monmouth College of Illinois, 8-5, in extra innings. The Judges fall to 1-2 on the season headed into UAA play.
  • Brandeis softball earns preseason national ranking from NFCA

    For the first time in program history, the Brandeis softball team has earned a pre-season national ranking from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Judges, who are coming off their first NCAA tournament berth and were ranked as high as 14th in Division III last season, start 2011 at No. 25.
