
Waltham, Mass. – Day two of the Gompei Invitational, hosted by WPI, saw the Judges retain their 10thoverall ranking with 1161 points, against stiff competition that includes multiple D1 and D2 teams. Much like day one, Brandeis fought hard and showed their strong depth.
While Brandeis did not manage a podium finish, the Judges displayed their depth as 29 different swimmers contributed points for the team. Brandeis was led by senior Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) who was a part of 158 points on the second day. Sophomore Brendon Lu (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and junior Richard Selznick (Las Vegas, Nev./Palos Verde) dominated the Men's 400-yard Individual Medley fishing 5thand 8th respectively. The Brandeis men had two very successful relay teams, the 200-yard free relay and 400-yard medley relay, who both finished in the top ten in their respective races. The 200-yard free relay team consisted of: junior Marcelo Ohno-Machado (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines), senior Tom Alger (Plymouth, Mass./Sacred Heart), junior Daniel Wohl (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), and Zitelny finished in 6thplace. While the 400-yard medley relay team consisted of: first-year James Barno (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa), Lu, Zitelny, and Wohl finished 7th overall.
For the women, first-year Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) once again was the points leader, accounting for 125 points. Gold had fine relay performances in the 200-yard free relay alongside juniors Uajda Musaku (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop), and Audrey Kim (Livingston, N.J./Livingston)as well as fellow first-year Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) who placed 8thin their event to earn 54 points. Additionally, the Women's 400-yard medley relay team placed 10thmade up of Kim, sophomore Olivia Stebbins (Willington, CT./ Edwin O. Smith), Gold, and Musaku.
Some new records have been set so far for the Judges at the invitational. Bailey Gold set a new 50-yard freestyle record with a time of 24.57 seconds, as well as a new 100-yard butterfly record at 58.18 seconds. Tamir Zitelny established the 50-yard butterfly record in 22.94 seconds, while Ema Rennie set a new 50-yard butterfly record herself at 26.81 seconds.
The Judges will continue the action for one more day at the Gompei Invitational.
