Rennie takes 100 fly as BUSDT women fall to Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Brandeis swimming and diving teams took on the United States Coast Guard Academy in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon. The Judges took first in a combined two individual events, but both teams lost to the Bears. The men's team lost 185-97, while the women's team lost 185-93.

On the women's side, the sole victory came from junior Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto). Rennie won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.18. Rennie also finished second in the 50-yard Freestyle with a season-best time of 25.29. Other top performers include first-years Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior) and Anastasia Bekou (Limassol, Cyprus / Laniteio Lyceum). Gonzalez finished 2nd in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 55.17, while Bekou finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.13. Rennie, Gonzalez and Bekou were joined by junior Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) to take second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Senior Olivia Stebbins (Willington, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith High School) replaced Gonzalez in the 400-yard medley relay, where the team also finished second with a time of 4:09.74.

On the men's side, the sole victory came from first-year Andrew Ngo (San Gabriels, Calif. / Gabrielino). Ngo came storming back in the final 50 yards to take the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 1:59.34. Other top performers include senior Brendon Lu (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) and sophomore Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier). Lu got second in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a season-best 2:10.38 and in the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best 1:59.73. Dienstag and Lu were also joined by Ngo and junior James Barno (Ballston Spa. N.Y. / Ballston Spa) to take second in the 400-yard medley relay. Dienstag got second in both distance events (the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000-yard freestyle). Dienstag was also joined by sophomore Ryan Schulken (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge), sophomore Dylan Levy (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee), and senior Benton Ferebee (Germantown, Tenn. / Memphis University School) to finish third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Judges return to action tomorrow (Sunday, November 21) in the latter half of a weekend back-to-back when they face Tufts University.
