Deshler, Ferro earn second-team All-UAA honorsMay 04, 2010Junior Tony Deshler and rookie Chris Ferro have been selected to the 2010 All-University Athletic Association second team. Deshler, the 2008 UAA Rookie of the Year, earns his second All-Conference bid, while Ferro, the team's leader in batting average, RBI and home runs earns his first nod.

Baseball falls in season finale at UMass-Darmouth, 11-4May 02, 2010Rookie Chris Ferro hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season and senior John O'Brion had three hits in his final collegiate game, but it wasn't enough for the Brandeis baseball team as they fell to UMass-Dartmouth, 11-4, in their season finale. The Judges close the season with an 11-24 record.

Baseball falls to 18th-ranked Wheaton, 7-1May 01, 2010The Brandeis baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to the second-ranked team in New England and No. 18 in the nation, the Wheaton College Lyons, coached by Eric Podbelski '91. Sophomore SS Sean O'Hare had half of the Judges' six hits and drove in their only run.

Baseball can't overcome another big inning, 15-8, at Keene StateApril 29, 2010The Brandeis baseball team was unable to work their magic for a second-straight day, falling behind after a nine-run inning and unable to overcome it in a 15-8 loss at Keene State today. The Judges lost despite three RBI each from seniors Artie Posch and James Likis.

Baseball wins wild home finale, 17-15, over BowdoinApril 28, 2010The Brandeis baseball team had a wild ride in their final home game of the regular season, storming back from seven runs down in the eighth inning to take a 17-15 win from visiting Bowdoin College. Sophomore 3B Jon Chu was the hitting star, going 5-for-6 with two doubles, three RBI and four runs scored as the Judges scored nine runs in the eighth inning.

Baseball takes rain-shortened 11-6 decison from UMass-DartmouthApril 27, 2010In a contest shortened by rain, the Brandeis baseball team scored six times in the bottom of the fifth to pull away from visiting UMass Dartmouth. Jon Chu, Artie Posch and Kenny Destremps all had multiple hits, while John McGrath picked up his first collegiate win with five innings of work.

Brandeis spring schedule updates: April 26April 26, 2010UPDATE, April 26: Because of opponent scheduling conflicts, the baseball doubleheader at Trinity that was rained out on Sunday will not be made up. In addition, because of postponements with the NEWMAC softball tournament, Tuesday's Brandeis-Babson doubleheader will also be canceled, with no make-up date. The softball team will instead host Framingham State on Sunday, May 2 at noon.

Baseball falls victim to another big inning in 13-7 loss to SuffolkApril 23, 2010The Brandeis baseball team got multi-hit games from the top four hitters in the line-up, including a 3-5 performance from lead-off hitter Tony Deshler that included a home run to start the game and a double, but host Suffolk put up an eight-spot in the seventh inning to defeat the Judges, 13-7, in Quincy, Mass.

McGrath shines, but Endicott scratches out 4-3 win in 11 inningsApril 21, 2010Brandeis junior righty John McGrath had the longest outing of his career, tossing 8.2 innings of eight-hit ball with four strikeouts, but the Judges couldn't hang on to the lead as they fell to host Endicott College, 4-3, in 11 innings. It was the third extra-inning game this season for the Judges, who fell to 1-2 in those games.

Eight-run seventh dooms baseball against Amherst, 11-2April 20, 2010Playing their first home game in three weeks, the Brandeis baseball team got six strong innings from rookie starter Dylan Britton and senior James Likis's third career home run. Unfortunately, the bullpen gave up eight runs in the seventh inning as the Judges fell to Amherst, 11-2.

Baseball takes down Babson, 10-5, to get back to winning waysApril 18, 2010Sophomore outfielder Zach Malis drove in four runs in just two official at-bats thanks to a pair of sacrifices, including an early sac fly, and a late three-run home run as the Brandeis baseball team downed Babson, 10-5. Senior Drew Brzozowski tossed a six-hitter for his third complete game of the season and the sixth of his career.

O'Hare slam rallies Judges, but Johnson & Wales walks off with 8-7 winApril 15, 2010Brandeis sophomore SS Sean O'Hare highlighted a five-run eighth inning with a grand slam that tied the game at 7-all, but host Johnson and Wales walked off with the win with a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to take an 8-7 win in Providence today.

Judges go deep three times, but it's not enough at Worcester State, 12-4April 13, 2010Despite round-trippers from juniors Tony Deshler and Eric Rosenberg and by rookie Chris Ferro, the Brandeis baseball team could not overcome a big inning by host Worcester State College, falling by a 12-4 margin in central Mass.

Baseball drops two at WPI, 10-3 and 10-1April 11, 2010Host WPI got a pair of strong pitching and hitting performances today to defeat the visiting Brandeis baseball team in a doubleheader, 10-3 and 10-1. The Judges got a two-hit performance from junior Eric Rosenberg in the second game, their only multi-hit game on the day.

Figueroa signs with PhilliesApril 08, 2010Brandeis baseball alumnus Nelson Figueroa '98, who was one of the last players cut from spring training by the New York Mets, has been resigned by the Philadelphia Phillies. Figueroa played with the Phillies in 2000 and 2001 after being included in the trade that sent him from Arizona to Philadelphia with three others in exchange for Curt Schilling.

Four-run fifth costs baseball at RIC, 5-1April 08, 2010The Brandeis baseball team was unable to muster much offense for the second game in a row, falling to Rhode Island College, 5-1. The Judges had just four hits off the Anchormen, though one was rookie Chris Ferro's team-leading third home run of the season.

Tufts takes pitchers duel from baseball team, 3-1April 06, 2010After allowing three runs in the first inning to host Tufts University, five Brandeis pitchers went on to allow just two more hits the rest of the way. Unfortunately, the Jumbos were just as effective on the hill, using a parade of hurlers to take a 3-1 decision in their home opener.

Baseball splits with Clark behind Brzozowski CG, Deshler's four hitsApril 03, 2010In an Easter weekend doubleheader, the Brandeis baseball team earned a split with Clark University in Worcester. Senior Drew Brzozowski tossed his second-straight complete game in the opener, an 11-3 Judges win, while junior Tony Deshler scored twice in Game Two, but the Cougars rallied for a 3-2 win in eight innings.

MIT engineers late rally to defeat Judges, 6-5April 02, 2010The Brandeis baseball team rallied from an early 3-0 deficit with five unanswered runs, but host MIT responded in the bottom of the ninth, winning the game with a walk-off bases-loaded double to earn a 6-5 win over the Judges. Brandeis fell despite two doubles each from rookie Chris Ferro and junior Tony Deshler.

Baseball splits with Framingham State, 6-1 & 5-7March 28, 2010Rookie starter Mike Swerdloff tossed his first collegiate complete game in the opener of a doubleheader against Framingham State today, defeating the Rams, 6-1, and giving up just four hits in the process. The Judges dropped the second game, 7-5, despite allowing just one earned run.

Baseball sweeps Springfield, 2-1 and 10-8, for three straightMarch 27, 2010Brandeis senior Drew Brzozowski tossed a complete-game three-hitter against Springfield College in the opener of a doubleheader for a 2-1 win and the Judges completed the sweep by taking advantage of six Pride errors to earn a 10-8 victory.

Deshler rallies baseball past Salve Regina, 9-4March 25, 2010Brandeis junior Tony Deshler doubled home the tying run and scored the game-winner on an error today as the Brandeis baseball team defeated Salve Regina University, 9-4, in Newport, R.I. The Judges scored six runs in the final two innings to make a winner of rookie Mike Swerdloff.

Baseball falls to Wentworth, 11-5March 24, 2010Despite the third career home run from sophomore SS Sean O'Hare and an RBI double from senior 2B John O'Brion, the Brandeis baseball team was unable to overcome a four-run sixth inning by the visitors, falling to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 11-5.

Ferro named UAA Hitter of the Week, March 22March 23, 2010For his performance in the Brandeis baseball home opener against Bridgewater State College, Judge rookie left fielder Chris Ferro was named University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week for March 22. He is the second Brandeis player to earn the honor, joining senior catcher Artie Posch.

Baseball takes home opener, 10-9, from Bridgewater StateMarch 18, 2010Rookie LF Chris Ferro was impressive in his home debut, going 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs scored, a double, home run and stolen base as the Judges rallied for a 10-9 win over Bridgewater State. Tony Deshler plated Zach Malis with a hard-hit ball up the middle for a walk-off win.

Baseball finishes UAA tourney at 1-4March 16, 2010The Brandeis baseball team wrapped up the 2010 UAA tournament with a 1-4 record. The Judges' best performance came in a 13-11 slugfest win over Washington University. Rookie Chris Ferro was one of the team's top performers at the plate, batting .375 with a double, a home run and six RBI.
