• Holgate, Norton, Udel claim All-UAA honors at outdoor track championships

    The Brandeis men's track and field team had three All-UAA performances at the 2010 conference championships held at Washington University. Senior Aaron Udel and junior Paul Norton were both runners-up in the 800 and 5000, respectively, while junior Devon Holgate was third in the 1,500.

    Brandeis junior Paul Norton placed first in the 3,000-meter run today as the Judges finished in fifth place at the 2010 University Athletic Association championship. He was one of seven All-UAA performances for the Brandeis men and women. Washington University captured the team crown.

    The Brandeis track and field teams produced a pair of All-UAA performances on the first day of action in the Gosman Athletic Center. The men's distance medley relay won the team's lone gold on the day, while the women's DMR, along with juniors Paul Norton (5K) and Lucia Capano (long jump) all earned silvers.

    Junior Paul Norton and senior Suzanne Bernier each earned All-Region honors at the 2010 Open New England championships this weekend at Boston University. Norton finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run, while Bernier was seventh in the high jump.

    The UAA has honored six Brandeis University student-athletes as Athlete of the Week for Feb. 1. Senior guard Jessica was honored for the second time in three weeks for women's basketball, while NCAA qualifiers junior Devon Holgate of and the women's distance medley relay team were honored for men's and women's track and field, respectively.

    Five Brandeis athletes - four in a relay and one individual - qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championships at the 2010 Terrier Classic at Boston University. Seniors Beth Pisarik, Julia Alpaio and Grayce Selig, along with Anifreed Sinjour, qualified in the women's distance medley relay, while junior Devon Holgate qualified for the men in the mile.

    The Brandeis men's track and field team had a quartet of winners today as the Judges finished in fourth place at the 2010 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational. Junior Devon Holgate won the 3K, classmate Ben Bray took the mile run, senior Aaron Udel (shown) captured the 800 and rookie Brian Foley narrowly won the 400.

    A pair of junior milers had the top performances for the Brandeis track team at the 2010 Dartmouth College Relays. On the women's side, Grayce Selig had a third-place finish in 5:08.22, while Devon Holgate was seventh in 4:20.64 for the men.

    In the first meet of the 2009-10 indoor track and field season, Northeastern University's Jay Carisella Track & Field Invitational, Brandeis junior Paul Norton qualified for his fourth career NCAA championship, while the women's team had three top-five performances.

    The Brandeis men's tennis team soundly defeated visiting Coast Guard, 9-0, in a match originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The Judges lost just one set, and rookie Eric Shyu lost just one game at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.
