Women’s basketball defeats Emory on Jackson buzzer beater

The Brandeis women's basketball team needed all 40 minutes to dispatch Emory for a UAA win after dropping a nine-point decision to the Eagles a week earlier. In a game that featured five ties and six lead changes, Maria Jackson '18, a first-team All-UAA selection had the final say. With the game tied at 59-59 following an Eagle free throw with 5.4 seconds on the clock, coach Carol Simon called timeout to advance the ball to the front court. The ball was inbounded to Paris Hodges '17, who dribbled into the lane for a jumper. The shot was off the mark to the left, but Jackson was wide open for the rebound and the put-back as the buzzer sounded, capping a 22-point, eight-rebound, three-steal night as the Judges prevailed, 61-59. The play was featured on the NCAA Weekly Top 10.
