Fencers claim overall and women’s title at New Englands

The Brandeis fencing team captured six titles at the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Fencing Championships at the University of Vermont, edging second-place MIT, 171-169, for the overall title. It was the team's first combined crown since 2014, while the women won their first team title since 2013 by three points over MIT and BC. The men finished fourth, but were just one victory and two touches shy of the same two schools.  In the weapon standings, women's foil and men's saber took the top spots, while Joanne Carminucci '19 and Ian Quin '20 won gold in women's and men's foil, respectively. Carmincucci defeated the top three seeds in the knockout round of the individual event, while Quin did the same for the men.
