  • Paige Blasco earns third All-UAA selection

    Senior outside hitter Paige Blasco has been named to a University Athletic Association All-Association honorable mention for 2010. This is her third-straight All-UAA nod, after second-team honors last season. Blasco finished fifth in the association in kills this season.

    With a 3-1 win over Rochester in their final match of the season, the Brandeis volleyball team claimed seventh place in the UAA. The Judges close their campaign at 15-19 by putting three players in double figures in kills. The Judges dropped three in a row to Carnegie Mellon to start the day.
  • Volleyball bows to #15 NYU and #1 WashU on first day of UAA Championships

    In their opening pool play matches of the 2010 UAA Championships, the Brandeis volleyball team fell to NYU and Washington for the second time this season by a pair of 3-0 scores. The seventh-seeded Judges will take on sixth-seeded Carnegie Mellon tomorrow to determine if they will play for fifth or seventh place in the final match of the tournament.

    Despite 17 kills and a .295 hitting percentage by senior Paige Blasco and 31 assists, 11 digs and seven kills from twin sister Abby, the Brandeis volleyball team could not get past UMass Boston, the top team in New England, 3-1, in the Judges Classic opener. Sophomore Lauren Berens (pictured) had a key kill in Brandeis's second-set win.

    The Judges fought hard this weekend, despite playing without starter Abby Blasco. Unfortunately they were unable to defeat their opponents, falling to Wellesley and MIT, 3-1.
  • On day two of UAA round robin, Brandeis comes up short

    Brandeis volleyball dropped tow games this afternoon in the final day of the University Athletic Association round robin. The Judges were defeated by the No. 2-ranked Emory University Eagles and came up just short in their match against the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans. With five blocks against the Tartans, senior Nicole Smith became Brandeis's all-time leader with 409.
  • Volleyball drops two at second UAA Round Robin

    The Brandeis volleyball team lost a pair of matches on the first day of UAA Round Robin II action. Playing in Shapiro Gymnasium, the Judges fell to Case (and head coach Karen Chambers Farrell '93), 3-1, and No. 23 NYU, 3-0.

  • Brandeis volleyball roars past Emerson, 3-0

    The Brandeis volleyball team needed just over an hour to defeat Emerson College, 3-0, tonight in Red Auerbach Arena. The Judges defeated the Lions, 25-12, 25-14, 25-7. Nicole Smith and Paige Blasco had 11 kills each, and Blasco and rookie Yael Einhorn led the squad with 12 digs apiece.

    The Judges bounced back from their conference-opening loss to Washington with a four-set win over Rochester. In their finale to the weekend, Brandeis took the first set from 19th-ranked Chicago, but ultimately fell in four to close out the weekend with a 10-7 record, 1-2 in the UAA.
  • Volleyball falls to defending national champs, WashU, 3-0

    The Brandeis volleyball team had their work cut out for them in their UAA opener against top-ranked and defending national champions Washington University. After pushing the Bears to the edge in the first set, 25-23, the Judges dropped the next two, 25-14, 25-16, falling to 9-6 on the campaign. Paige Blasco led the offense with 11 kills.
  • Volleyball splits on Day Two of Amherst Classic

    Brandeis senior outside hitter Paige Blasco registered a pair of double-double performance on the second day of action at today's Amherst College Classic as the Judges split a pair of matches. Blasco had 17 kills and 17 digs in a five-set win over Middlebury and 18 kills and 12 digs in a 3-1 loss to the United States Coast Guard Academy.

    The Brandeis volleyball team, ranked sixth in New England, dropped its second-straight match against another ranked team, falling to host Amherst, 3-0, in the Amherst Classic opener. Set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 25-19. Nicole Smith led the Judges with 14 kills and three blocks, while Abby Blasco had 21 assists

    For the first time in recent memory all five Brandeis fall teams are ranked among the top 10 in New England. With two nationally-ranked cross country squads leading the way, men's soccer off to its best start in 25 years and women's soccer and volleyball performing well, it's been a great first month for the Judges!

    The Brandeis volleyball team gave host Tufts, the top-ranked team in New England, all it could handle in the first two sets, but the Jumbos prevailed in three, 26-24, 25-22, 25-18. Outside hitter Paige Blasco had nine kills for the Judges, while twin sister Abby (pictured) added 17 assists.
  • Volleyball rallies for 3-2 win over Endicott

    For the second time this season, the Brandeis volleyball team rallied from two sets down for victory, defeating Endicott, 3-2. Set scores were 24-26, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-13. Paige Blasco had 23 kills, while Nikki Smith added 15 kills, six blocks and four service aces.

    After an up-and-down 2009 season, Brandeis volleyball coach Michelle Kim enters her seventh season at the helm hoping to break through in the ultra-competitive University Athletic Association in 2010. Kim's squad will rely on a trio of experienced seniors while look for emerging stars from the returning sophomore class and three new members of the squad.
