Senior Will Friedman had 10 points and sophomore Adam Austin had six as the Brandeis fencing team scored 16 points to tie for 15th place with Brown University and the University of North Carolina after Day Two of the NCAA National Collegiate championships at Penn State University.
Senior foil Will Friedman became the second Brandeis fencer to reach four straight NCAA championships, while sophomore sabers Adam Austin and Anna Hanley will be making their first appearances at the national championships, held March 19-22 at Penn State University.
Senior Caitlin Kozel earned a bronze medal in the epee, helping the Brandeis women's fencing team to the top finish among Division III schools at the 112th Intercollegiate Fencing Association championships. The Judges were sixth out of 12 teams.

The Brandeis men's fencing team dropped four of its six matches at the MIT-Brandeis Invitational, newly rechristened the Eric Sollee Invitational after the long-time Engineer coach. The Judges picked up wins over Yeshiva and Haverford, with the men's epee squad going 4-2 on the day.
The Brandeis men's fencing won all five matches at Brown University to finish 10-0 in the Northeast Fencing Conference. The Judges successfully defended their NFC crown with four narrow victories in their five matches.
The Brandeis men's fencing team put together two weapon victories on the day, but it wasn't enough as the Judges fell to Brown, Yale and St. John's University in their first home action of the season.
Despite a 7-2 mark by senior All-American Will Friedman (Newton, Mass.) in the foil, the Brandeis men's fencing suffered their first two losses of the season. The Judges finished third at the Boston Beanpot championships with losses to Harvard (11-16) and BC (12-15) and a win over MIT (15-12)
Competing at the University of New Hampshire, the Brandeis men's fencing team won its first five head-to-head matches of the season, including a narrow 14-13 defeat of MIT.
Juniors Alex Clos (Arlington, Mass.) and Will Bedor (Rego Park, N.Y.) took the top two spots in the epee at the 2008 New England Intercollegiate Fencing Association in the first action of the season for the Brandeis fencing team.
