  • Brandeis fencers 20th, Cardillo 17th and Powell 23rd at NCAA Championships

    Brandeis rookie Julian Cardillo finished in 17th place in the foil, while junior epee Alex Powell took 23rd place at the 2011 NCAA Fencing Championships at the Ohio State University. With the 15 points the two Judges scored, Brandeis finished 20th overall out of 30 teams at the championships, second among the seven Division III squads and fifth among schools from New England.

  • Cardillo, Powell to represent Judges at 2011 NCAA Fencing Championships

    Rookie foil fencer Julian Cardillo and junior epeeist Alex Powell have been selected to represent Brandeis at the 2011 NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championships, which will be held at the Ohio State University March 24 through 27. Cardillo finished seventh in the Northeast regional to earn an automatic berth to nationals, while Powell claimed one of two at-large spots in his weapon.
  • Cardillo, Mack top fencers at 2011 Northeast Regionals

    A pair of first-year competitors, foilist Julian Cardillo for the men and epeeist Leah Mack for the women, topped the charts for the Brandeis fencing team at the 2011 NCAA Northeast Regional at Vassar College this weekend. Cardillo finished seven at the meet, locking up a bid to the NCAA championships at Ohio State (which will be announced on Tuesday), while Mack placed 10th overall.

    Three Brandeis student-athletes have been selected as UAA Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 23. Senior Grayce Selig was recognized for the women's track and field team, while seniors Anna Hanley and Adam Austin were honored for men's and women's fencing.

    The Brandeis men's fencing team went 2-3 at their second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season, finishing the campaign with a 6-4 record. The Judges defeated Dartmouth and Tufts, and suffered three-point losses at the hands of BC and Brown. Rookie Julian Cardillo went undefeated in the foil, while senior saber Adam Austin suffered just two losses.

    The Brandeis fencing team opened the 2010 season at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Fall Tournament. Leading the way were senior Adam Austin and junior Alex Powell, who both earned gold medals. Senior Jon Rollock, rookie Julian Cardillo and sophomore Vikki Nunley each claimed bronze.
